Designer Joe Steiner borrowed directional control concepts from snowboarding and riding style from ocean bodyboarding when he developed the Airboard Classic. Unlike tubes or toboggans the Airboard Classic turns like a snowboard or ski. Lying chest down on the Airboard Classic riders carve turns by shifting their weight to drive the curved underside profile runners into the snow. By shifting weight using the side handles riders can perform a hockey stop by turning 90 degrees into the slope.
