Dogsledding with your Mountain Boy kicksled is fantastic -- a great way to mush with just one dog. To make it easy, we have put together a package with all the things you'll need: a harness, sled brake, Snow Floats, tugline and bridle. Every kicksled has rings welded to the front of the steel runners, so you can harness your dog, clip him or her to the kicksled, and quickly be on your way.
Most dogs of 35 pounds or more are able to significantly increase your speed and endurance on a kicksled. Dogs of 50 pounds or more often can pull a rider with no help (and for a very long distance!) And if you like, you can hook up a second dog for even more pulling power.
To get started, all you need is a kicksled, the Mushing Package, and patience. A gentle approach usually works best: start by going a short distance, give your dog plenty of positive feedback, and make sure there's a treat or two along the way. Work slowly up to longer distances as your dog gets used to pulling and gets stronger.
As your trips get longer, remember to bring snacks, water and warm clothes. You'll find that a day pack or belt pack easily fits onto the kicksled, and will carry the essentials for a long kicksled ride with your dog. Our new solar backpack will allow you to even keep your cell phone charged, so you can give your loved one a call and tell them about the wonderful scenery.
