 There
are modern day seasonal innovations, and then there are traditional
and nostalgic Christmas symbols. Every year our culture combines
the two in order to experience all aspects of the holiday season.
Many of the customs that began centuries ago are still in existence
today, suited to the modern world.
The sleigh bells that alerted pedestrians of a coming vehicle (be
it horse or sleigh) are now used in decorations for houses, shoes,
holiday clothing and wreaths. We light our Christmas trees with
small wires illuminated with electric bulbs, just as the original
Christmas tree branches were lit with candles.
A nostalgically designed snow sleigh is also a common symbol of
Christmas. Photographs, holiday post cards, Christmas cards, tin
boxes of Christmas cookies and plenty other holiday items contain
a snow sleigh image.
The snow sleigh is also still used for its original purpose. Traveling
across snowy and slick surfaces. Although, today we are more concerned
with its recreational uses rather than for work or transporting
items other than our own bodies!
You can find a snow sleigh for children, for adults, or simply
for the decoration of your front porch or inside household. Enjoy
the season, and this symbol!
