For the coldest climates, winter
can last almost all year round. In most places, though winter is
a few months at the most, but that can be a long time to be restricted
to the indoors.
It is important to include many outdoor activities in your winter
routine, to avoid seasonal depression or spring fever! Enjoy the
time and weather as it is today, and eventually tomorrow will bring
spring.
Here are some fun outdoor activities that you should try in the
winter for a more enjoyable holiday!
- Snowshoeing. Snowshoes are
not very expensive, and this is one of the more versatile outdoor
activities which you don’t need a resort to enjoy. Simply
find a winter trail or even walk on them in your neighborhood,
if the sidewalks and streets are covered in snow.
- Kicksledding. This is another
one of the outdoor activities that is better performed in neighborhoods
or local trails rather than the ski slopes. It is requires physical
effort, and is therefore a helpful source of winter exercise.
It is a chair with tall handles on the back. There are two rungs
extending behind the seat on which you place your feet, alternating
a kicking motion with one of your legs, propelling the sled forward
along the snow. So you can either take your children, friend or
sweetheart for a ride!
- Ice skating. A lot of outdoor
activities take some degree of learning and skill, and this is
definitely one of them. But ice skating is quite simple once you
get the hang of it, unless you are going for the Gold! Find a
local ice skating rink for a family day on the ice. Or, there
are actually companies that make home ice skating rinks, at a
reasonable price. This is a fun way to make your yard winter friendly!
- Winter wonderland walks.
It is simple, but very enjoyable. Take time to enjoy the crisp,
cool air and the winter scenery. Make sure to bundle up well,
and have some hot chocolate when you get back!
